The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for both the Mother Lode and the Sierra Nevada, which is in effect from 4 PM Saturday to 4 PM Monday.

Snow levels will lower to around 2,000 to 2,500 feet in the Mother Lode. The highest amount of snow accumulation is expected above the 2,500 foot elevation with a light amount of snow down to 2,000 feet.

Total snow accumulations will range up to eight inches above 2,500 feet. Up to two feet of snow is expected above the 4,000 foot elevation. Up to three feet of snow is likely above 6,000 feet.

A Winter Storm Warning means severe winter weather conditions are either expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Strong winds are also possible. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
